Bus Driver-Long Term Sub

West Valley Central School District is seeking a dependable and student-focused individual to serve as a Long-Term Substitute Bus Driver through June 2026.

This is a 5-hour per day position at $27.00 per hour.

Position Overview

The successful candidate will safely transport students to and from school and school activities while maintaining a positive and professional environment on the bus.

 

Responsibilities Include:

  • Safely operating a school bus in accordance with NYS law and district procedures

  • Conducting required daily pre-trip inspections

  • Following assigned routes and schedules

  • Maintaining a safe and orderly bus environment

  • Communicating professionally with students, staff, and parents

  • Completing required reports and documentation

Additional West Valley Central School District Job Duties and Responsibilities

 (Listed, but are not limited to)

• Scheduled arrival time at WVCS is between 7:30-7:35 a.m. Drivers may have to hold students on the bus if applicable or necessary.  

• All buses are to be parked in place, ready to load, not later than 2:30 p.m.

• BOCES and special route drivers are to follow the assigned route and schedule; and ensure that no student is left unnecessarily.

• Drivers are expected to thoroughly rinse their bus at the end of each day and/or at the conclusion of each trip as necessary because of road or weather conditions. Paper and trash are to be picked up at the conclusion of each trip and buses are to be thoroughly swept on a weekly basis.

• Each driver is responsible for fueling his/her vehicle and making the proper entry in the district’s fuel log records.

• Each driver is responsible for performing daily pre-trip vehicle inspection in accordance with D.M.V. regulations.

• Drivers are to conduct NYS emergency drills three (3) times per year as scheduled by the Dispatcher.

• Drivers will walk through their bus to check for damage, lost articles, etc., each time students vacate their bus.

• Drivers are to enforce all WVCS student rules on all regularly scheduled routes and extra trips.  

• Drivers may not deny (or threaten to deny) transportation to any student for any reason and may not expel students from the bus enroute.

• Teachers and/or coaches designated by the Superintendent are in charge of the students and maintenance of discipline on field and athletic trips.

• The bus driver has primary authority over bus aides.

• Drivers are to stop at all stops unless it is certain that the student is not riding (family vacation, extended illness) and take all reasonable steps to ensure that students will not be missed.  

• Drivers are to have a courteous attitude toward students, staff, parents, and the public.

• Drivers are to cooperate with the reasonable requests of teachers and administrators both here at WVCS and at other sites visited by our school.

• Drivers are to follow the chain of command in resolving differences. That chain of command is:

* First, the Transportation Director/Bus Mechanic

* Second, the Business Administrator

* Third, the Superintendent; and [1]

* Finally, the Board of Education (for grievances not resolved at a lower level.)

• A high degree of cooperation is expected between all drivers, regardless of outside personal differences. • All drivers must be approved by the Board of Education for their initial employment.

• Performs other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor or his/her designee. STUDENT/BUS SAFETY

• Drivers are to report all mechanical malfunctions and problems to the Transportation Director/Bus Mechanic and record the same on the daily trip ticket.

• Drivers are to report road hazards and other unsafe conditions to the Bus Dispatcher and record the same on the daily trip ticket.

• Drivers are to instruct students on the ten-foot crossing rule and enforce it.

• Drivers are to report all injuries, discipline problems, cars passing stopped buses, inoperative railroad crossing warning devices, etc. to the Transportation Director/Bus Mechanic and record the same on the daily trip ticket

• Transportation staff do not contact families regarding disciplinary concerns.

• Drivers are to report all serious discipline problems to the Transportation Director/Bus Mechanic and are expected to cooperate in solving discipline problems.  

Pay and benefits according to the WVCS/WVSEA contract

Bus Driver

West Valley Central School District is seeking a dependable and safety-focused individual to join our transportation team as a Bus Driver.

This position is 3 hours per day, with the opportunity to pick up additional runs or trips as available.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Safely transport students to and from school and school-related activities
